I am driving my car and trying to get to Miami. I get lost. I stop at a gas station because I need someone to direct me in the right direction. I end up in a city called Hialeah where there are very few English speaking people. The people that are there only speak Spanish. What do I do? This scenario happens to many people everyday. How do we deal with situations like this one? The city of Hialeah is a major example of immigration. Many immigrants have come into the United States and have changed the way things work. When one reads a sign in public, for example, it is most likely to not only having the phrase written in English but also in another language such as Spanish. Along with many other Americans, I believe that immigrants displace United States workers, burden social welfare systems, and threaten American culture. Some of the effects that immigrants have put on our economy are the growth rate, inflation, per capita income, income redistribution, and balance of payments (Wilson 74). In order to avoid management issues, the former CEO should have waited for credibility levels to be restored as the organization awaited a replacement. This management problem led to a decline in sales within the organization. Earnings of 2015 were much lower than those of 2014. There was 20 percent reduction in profits in the first half. Staggering went on to 40 percent by the end of 2015. 2015 profits were only $100 m while those of 2015 had reached $160 m. These declines clearly indicate that David and Jones has been experiencing a management problem (Ellem, 2016). The organization has also been left far behind by its competitors both in terms of sales growth and ideas. This is one of the largest development and growth areas. Most of the changes that have been taking places recently were considered important as they would provide a good idea as to the management problems the company has been facing. Between 1957 and 1981, David and Jones opened several stores and closing them later due to various reasons. According to Ellem (2016), the Newcastle store opened in 1957 was closed in 2011; the Warrawong branch opened in 1971 was closed in 1986; Wagga Wagga store opened in 1953 was closed in 1971; the three stores opened in 1982 in Northland, Chadstone and Bourke street were closed in the year that followed, 1983; Bon Marche (Perth) that was acquired in 1954 was later closed in 1979; Foy Gibson acquired in 1964 were later closed in 1978; branch in McKimmons was opened in 1960 and closed in 1994 ('Insight: Brand Health Check, 2014); Marsh Webster acquired in 1963 was closed in 1981; Boland's branch opened in 1963 was closed in 1984; Wyper Bros acquired in 1972 was closed in 1981; and Stuparts opened in 1977 was closed in 1981. The closure of many branches that have been opened shows how decisions to opening branches were poorly made. Most of the branches did not operate for more than a decade. Some like the three stores opened in 1982 in Northland, Chadstone and Bourke streets were closed one year later after they were opened. The company later diversified into food industry but the branches were closed in 2003 due to the losses that they were making. Some of these losses made individuals in the management level to resign. For instance, Mark Mcinnes who was the CEO resigned in 2010 due to the 6.4% sales decline that were being experienced in 2009. This presents a communication/cultural barrier problem if there is poor management. Even though communication/cultural issue is a problem that is yet to be documented. The findings indicate that the company has had a series of poor decision making. This is a problem that the organization could solve smoothly. Alternatives Identification and Recommendations to Improving organizational performance Management issue has been a major issue for the company. Results of the research indicate that poor decision making has cost the company resources that would have been efficiently used in other investments. In order to avoid poor management the first alternative would be to consult human resource firms to provide the organization with managers to replace all the ones in all the branches. New managers would bring new ideas in the organization without being hindered by those who have been within the company for long. Each manager would also want to do the best in their part as they would consider the fact that none of the other managers would take a top position without excellent performance. This would be a good alternative as the organization would receive a fresh lot of management. The disadvantages with this alternative as several. The company would waste more resources while conducting the whole recruitment process. Considering that not all managers perform poorly, more finances w ould be wasted. The second alternative would be leave the management as it is and focus on a different problem that is closely related to the management such as the technology issue. Considering the fact that there was a recent recruitment in all top positions in all branches, it would be better to avoid doing it again in order to save resources. A leadership training program should be designed to ensure that the leaders get the right skills required for the company. In this alternative more finances should be used to make customer experience better by improving on technology. The latest mobile applications should be introduced by David and Jones to ensure that customers enjoy purchasing items using technology. David and Jones should also diversify on the products it sells. If the company adds electronics onto its fashion online shop, more customers would prefer to remain the organizations customers. This second alternative would be the one that I would recommend the organization to implement. How the problem should be managed It is apparently clear that if one stops moving, he/she would die sooner. The same principle applies to every organization. Problems will always arise in organizations. In order to manage those problems, the organizations must continue changing in order to adapt to management pressures. The important thing is determining when the organization needs to start the change process. Since management changes have already taken place within the organization, it is now important for the company to focus on other important areas. There is continuous advancement of technology and it is changing the manner in which organizations are executing their daily activities. David and Jones needs to embrace such technological changes. The organization should use a different strategy in order to succeed in leading the international stores that it has started focusing on. David and Jones should put more focus on improving user experience. The organization should do this by first launching to its customers the most recent and updated mobile applications and sites. The current mobile applications are user friendly and customers can shop as the like so long as the app is available (Kondalkar, 2009). To remain in tandem with technology, it is also important that the company maintain its market share and try to attract more. The company can do so by increasing the number of items that it trades so that customers can check other things as they shop for fashion. Currently most online shops include most of the items that customers require and at a lower price. A David and Jones customer might move onto a different shop if there are more items sold there. Still on technology, the organization should introduce the point of sales system. This will boost the employees by increasing their efficiency and also customer service in a better manner. The Historical Development Of The Juvenile Essay The Juvenile Justice System was a creation of the Progressive Era reformist. Prior to this time there was little consideration for children as needing or deserving different treatment than adults. To tell the truth there was relatively no separation of adults and children up to this point in time. In retrospect it could be said that the creation of a separate stage in the life of growing people led to the creation of a separate justice system. So the creation of adolescence and its separation from the rest of society also gave rise to the Juvenile Justice System. This section of the paper looks into this development. As late as the eighteenth century children regularly participated in activities that would now be considered adult in nature (Empey, 1976). This included but was not limited to engaging in sexual activity at an early age, learning and using obscene language, drinking alcohol in taverns if not at home, working and learning trades and fighting in wars (Empey, 1976). In the United States there was little difference than the rest of western society. Colonial reformist saw deviant behavior as something to be concerned about but it was considered a critical social problem or a breakdown in the social organization (Empey, 1976). Basically they saw humans as inherently weak and drew a parallel between sin and crime and they treated either equally with the same harsh, usually public, punishments. But with the newly won freedom of the United States came a new perspective on things. With peoples freedoms being based on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, which had their foundations in the Enlightenment Eras philosophies, there came many changes in the way people saw things (Empey, 1976). People were no longer seen as inherently evil or preordained to a certain life path. Deviance was no longer equated with sin; it was due to a flaw in upbringing or other social problem. With these new philosophies dominating society there came a pressing need to most to change and revise the criminal codes of the past and also the reduction in punishment for a majority of less serious crimes. But even this did not create a separation of youths and adults in society or in the criminal justice system. That did not occur until the early nineteenth century when Progressive Era reformist were pushing for a  serious of programs aimed at helping the youth of society (Empey, 1976). Among these programs were child labor laws, mandatory schooling, kindergarten programs and increased intervention and rehabilitation for the wayward youth of society (National†¦, 2001). The backlash of several of these programs, whether intentional or not, was the stratification of our society by age. It is this stratification that latter allowed for the complete separation of youth from the rest of society during adolescence. It also led to the creation of Houses of Refuge and Orphan Asylums in most major cities. In fact by 1825 these institutions for juvenile offenders and other lost youth were common in most populous cities and states (Empey, 1976). It was the purpose of these institutions to act as a substitute for family and community but as is usually the case they soon became overcrowded and became nothing more than warehouses for these youths. By the end of the nineteenth century reformers felt even more effort was needed to solve the problem and more legality was sought to back their actions. They pushed for more power to interfere in troubled youths lives, they saw no need to wait until the child committed an offense before giving them guidance, and these powers were granted. Now a child could be pulled from any situation in which it was felt they were being corrupted or adequate attention and structure were being provided. These new powers and the increased emphasis of the reformist for a separate system for children gave rise to the Juvenile Justice System. In 1899 the Illinois Juvenile Court Act gave birth to the first juvenile court in Chicago (National, 2001). By 1925 a functioning juvenile court existed in every state in the U.S. except Wyoming and Maine (Schlossman, 1983). Holden has a respect for women that he views as unnatural. He feels that his sexual desires should be similar to those of his roommate Stradlater and peer, Luce. He is the only person who questions the moral atmosphere of Denmark but is driven to act irritationally because of the distress placed on him by the world. Hamlet struggles with his duty to his father, his disillusionment with himself, his revenge on Claudius, his mother’s sudden remarriage, the purpose of the ghost and the corrupt nature of Denmark. By not informing the audience of the intentions of the ghost, Shakespeare keeps them engaged by creating disillusionment through Hamlet’s struggle for the truth. Furthermore, Shakespeare continues to engage audiences by presenting ideas of duty and corruption which are shown largely through the characterization of Hamlet. Hamlet struggles with his thoughts and feelings. The degree to which his alienation and melancholy signalled in his behaviour varies from production to production due to his father’s death. ‘O that this too too solid flesh would melt, thaw and resolve itself into a dew, or that the everlasting had not fixed his canon ’gainst self-slaughter. O God, God, how weary, stale, flat and unprofitable seem to me all the uses of this world! (Act 1 Scene 2). This quotation is Hamlet’s first soliloquy which signifies his first thoughts about suicide and how the world seems â€Å"weary, stale, flat, and unprofitable†. It conveys that he sees the world as a neglected garden grown foul. It also uses extended metaphor to articulate his strong desire to rest in peace. In other words, Hamlet finds suicide a desirable alternative to life in a painful world but this option is closed to him because it is forbidden by religion. Hamlet exposes the range of his depression: weariness, despair, grief, anger, nausea, loathing and disgust, resignation. The importance of this soliloquy lies in its establishing of Hamlet’s personality and revealing his mental condition. It presents Hamlet’s struggle for life and the disillusionment he feels towards the world. Through this, the audience therefore gain a closer relationship with Hamlet, and are absorbed by him because they are able to resonate with his circumstances, as he is faced with enduring truths of the human condition. Hamlet’s disillusionment with himself is largely driven by the disgust towards his mother’s sudden remarriage. In Act 1 Scene 2, Hamlet is dressed in black, signifying grief for his dead father. His appearance contrasts strikingly with the costumes and attitudes of the courtiers celebrating the wedding of Claudius and Gertrude. In this soliloquy, Hamlet describes his intense disgust at his mother’s second marriage to his despised uncle so soon after his father’s death. ‘Hyperion to a Satyr†¦those shoes were old with which she following my poor father’s body’ (Act 1 Scene 2). He describes the haste of their marriage through irony, noting that the shoes his mother wore to his father’s funeral were not worn out before her marriage to Claudius. He recalls how tenderly and protectively his father loved his mother, and how passionately she loved him. Here, the audience is engaged through a deep understanding of Hamlet’s emotional feelings and the circumstances of betrayal in a relationship. In Act 1 Scene 4, Hamlet’s meditation on human nature is interrupted by the appearance of the Ghost. Therefore, the Ghost is seen by audiences as a devilish spirit sent to tempt Hamlet into an action that will result in his suffering for eternity. Here, audiences are engaged through Shakespeare’s dramatic treatment of Hamlet’s struggle for the truth and his disillusionment with the Ghost. Hamlet is hungry for revenge, but unsure if he knows the truth. His thoughts, emotions, and desire for action struggle with each other. In the soliloquy of Act 4 Scene 4, triggered by Fortinbra’s ruthlessness, Hamlet begins to realise his excessive over-thinking. Hamlet is self-abusive in his expressions and shows deep depression through the comparison of himself to the lowest and most worthless thing he can think of. Hamlet himself is more prone to â€Å"apprehension† than to â€Å"action†, which is why he delays so long before seeking his revenge on Claudius. Hamlet’s struggle to take action builds the climax throughout the play and keeps audiences engaged with the many questions and interpretations that follow from his indecisive and uncertainties to bring action upon his duty to his father.
